Martin Luther King

Lisa Reinertson

1987, Terracotta

Reinertson is considered the most important sculptor of Martin Luther King’s image. The three over-life-size images of Martin Luther King Reinertson has created are truly monumental, among the first works to break her tradition to not put heroes up on pedestals. Instead, she says, “I guess I’ve put the unsung heroes there.”
