Robert Arneson

Robert Arneson (1930 -1992) is one of the founding fathers of American ceramic sculpture. In the early 1960’s, Arneson created raucous good-humor sculptures with political and social commentaries, which marked one of the most profound regional art movements—California Funk.  Later, Arneson brought ceramics into the realm of fine art, incorporating drawings, paintings, and sculptures that related to current events as a regular feature in the oeuvre.

The John Natsoulas Gallery makes a special note that Arneson was deeply involved with the inception of the gallery and it maintains profound admiration and respect for the community that continues on in Arneson’s stead.
